• How much does it cost to run a Split System? >

  Running costs depend on the unit size, energy efficiency, electricity rates and how often it’s used.

  As a rough guide:

  • 2.5–3.5 kW unit: ~$0.60–$1.00 per hour
  • 5.0–7.0 kW unit: ~$1.00–$2.00 per hour

  Inverter Split Systems adjust their output once the room reaches temperature, which helps keep running costs down.

• What size Split System do I need? >

  The right size depends on room size, ceiling height, insulation, window size and how much sun the room gets.

  As a rule of thumb:

  • Bedrooms: 2.5–3.5 kW
  • Living areas: 5.0–7.0 kW
  • Large open-plan spaces: 8.0 kW+

  An installer can confirm with a heat load calculation.

• Are Split Systems energy efficient? >

  Yes. Modern split systems are among the most energy-efficient ways to heat and cool a home.

  Look for:

  • High star ratings (Cooling & Heating)
  • Inverter technology
  • Zoning by room (only heat/cool where needed)
• Can a Split System heat my home as well as cool it? >

  Yes. Reverse-cycle split systems both heat and cool and are very efficient, even in colder climates.

  They use electricity to move heat rather than create it, making them cheaper to run than many traditional heaters.

• What temperature should I set my air conditioner to? >

  For comfort and efficiency:
  • Cooling: 23–25°C
  • Heating: 18–20°C

  Every degree outside these ranges can significantly increase energy use.

• How long does a Split System last? >

  With proper installation and maintenance:
  • 10–15 years is typical

  Coastal or dusty environments may require more frequent servicing.

NB: Reverse cycle air-conditioners are an effective solution as they provide both cooling and heating and are highly efficient. However, unlike gas heaters, their heating capacity will reduce with colder ambient temperatures, which is especially relevant for homes in colder areas. Discuss with your installer things like the local climate, the size of your house, its orientation and construction (such as glazing, doors, insulation), and your expectations, so a system with the appropriate capacity can be selected.
