Background
As part of the North Stand redevelopment, the Sydney Cricket Ground sought to showcase a new generation of stadium design. The architectural vision for the project created unique building services challenges, with limited plant space available across multiple locations throughout the facility.
To support the venue's diverse amenities, four separate hot water plants were required, each serving different areas of the stadium while fitting seamlessly within the building's design constraints.
Challenge
The project's architectural complexity meant that each hot water plant had to be individually designed to suit its allocated location, whether positioned internally or externally within the structure.
One of the most challenging installations was the players' amenities hot water plant, which was located beneath the stadium seating. This confined internal location presented significant flueing challenges, requiring a carefully engineered fan-assisted flue solution to ensure safe and reliable operation.
In addition to these design constraints, the project team sought to minimise on-site installation time and complexity to support the construction schedule.
Solution
Rinnai manufactured all four hot water plants in its state-of-the-art facility, custom-building each package to suit the exact requirements of its designated location.
Every hot water package was fully assembled, plumbed and mounted on stainless steel skid bases prior to delivery, significantly reducing on-site assembly requirements. This prefabricated approach streamlined installation while ensuring consistent quality and performance.
For the players' amenities plant, Rinnai engineered a specialised fan-assisted common flue solution that enabled the system to operate effectively within the confined internal space beneath the grandstand.
