Safe and Sustainable Hot Water for City West Police Complex – Melbourne, VIC

Located on Spencer Street in Melbourne's CBD, the City West Police Complex was developed as a state-of-the-art police facility designed to meet exacting security standards. In addition to operational requirements, the project targeted a 5 Star Green energy rating, creating the need for building services that could deliver both performance and sustainability outcomes.

A critical component of the development was a highly specialised hot water system capable of integrating multiple preheated water sources while maintaining safe distribution temperatures throughout the building.

The hot water plant design presented several complex requirements. The system needed to utilise two separate sources of preheated water to reduce fuel consumption while ensuring water circulated throughout the building did not exceed a specified maximum temperature.

Achieving these objectives required a carefully engineered solution that balanced energy efficiency, operational reliability and occupant safety within a highly regulated facility.

Using its Warm Water Valve as the foundation, Rinnai designed and constructed a sophisticated safety and preheat blending valve system tailored to the project's unique requirements.

The custom solution efficiently integrated two sources of preheated water, enabling the facility to maximise energy savings while maintaining precise control of water temperatures. The system ensured safe hot water delivery across the building and supported the project's sustainability objectives.

Rinnai's customised warm water and preheat blending system delivered safe, controlled water temperatures, reduced fuel consumption and improved energy efficiency while supporting the building's 5 Star Green energy goals.
