The LAMP Project is a purpose-built student accommodation development in Macquarie Park, completed in February 2026.

Background

Designed to support a large resident population, the building required a hot water system capable of meeting high levels of simultaneous demand while maintaining strong energy efficiency.

Challenge

Student accommodation experiences concentrated periods of hot water use as residents access bathrooms and facilities throughout the day. The client needed a solution that could provide the capacity and reliability required during peak demand periods while achieving long-term energy efficiency goals. With ample plant room space available, the project could focus on optimising system performance and storage capacity rather than working around space constraints.

Solution

Rinnai specified six CHP040VP Commercial Hot Water Heat Pumps paired with six G2T3000SS stainless steel storage tanks at 3000L each, giving the building substantial hot water reserves to meet the concentrated demand typical of student accommodation. The heat pump-based system was chosen to directly address the client's efficiency goals, drawing on ambient air rather than relying on traditional gas or electric resistance heating, while the generous tank capacity ensures reliable supply is available even during peak periods.

Outcome

The result is a system that delivers strong energy efficiency and reduced running costs, along with improved reliability, increased capacity and genuine sustainability outcomes, a fitting match for a facility built to serve a large, high demand student population.

By combining six commercial heat pumps with 18,000 litres of stainless steel hot water storage, Rinnai delivered an efficient, high-capacity solution that provides reliable hot water, reduced operating costs and long-term sustainability benefits for a demanding student accommodation environment.
