Solar Rebates

RECs Rebate

Each Rinnai Solar System is independently tested to determine its solar contribution. The Australian Greenhouse Office awards Renewable Energy Certificates more commonly known as “RECs” according to how much energy each system saves compared to a conventional electric water heater.

Each REC awarded is equivalent to the saving of 1000 kilowatt-hours of electricity over a 10 year period.

The Australian Federal Government has legislated that RECs are applicable:
1. When a Solar System is installed in a new home
or
2. When replacing any existing hot water unit.

Conditions do apply and these may vary from time to time due to legislative changes. See linkslink to the Rebate Calculator for further details.

How to claim the REC’s rebate?

Ultimately the RECs awarded to any system are traded/sold on the open market at a price which fluctuates according to supply and demand.

The simplest way is to fill out the REC rebate declaration form that is supplied with each system which transfers the REC’s to Rinnai. In return we will pay you the market rate which is current at that time less a small admin fee.

We also recommend you contact your local Rinnai solar specialist who can advise you of the applicable rebates you may be eligible for. Your installer may also be able to pass these rebates on to you as a discount on the total job, all you have to do is sign the rebates over. Its that simple.

Additional Government Rebates

The Federal Government, many State Governments and even some local Councils offer addition rebates as an incentive to install solar hot water systems. Unfortunately the eligibility and conditions for these rebates all vary and must be checked at the time of purchase. The below link to the Rebate ESTIMATOR can assist with the calculation of what you could be entitled to.
